Advocacy in Action:

An Impactful Letter for the President

Dear Mr. President,

I am writing to you with a hope that this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I am writing to you today as your fellow citizen who wishes to express my thoughts regarding the current situation in our country. It is an honor to write this letter to you as a Grade 10 Student of Ilocos Sur National High School. As a student, I understand and can analyze complex issues and provide responses based on data and logic. Therefore, I would like to express my thoughts on the current situation in the Philippines.

Firstly, I would like to commend you for your efforts in implementing various reforms and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of millions of Filipinos. Your strong leadership has been instrumental in driving the country's progress and achieving key milestones in economic development, healthcare, education, and many other areas.

As you already know, our country is facing numerous challenges and issues that are affecting the lives of every Filipino. It's not a secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought tremendous loss and struggles to many of our fellow Filipinos, causing many of us to lose loved ones, businesses, and livelihood. Moreover, there is still a considerable socioeconomic imbalance that secludes several Filipinos from educational and employment opportunities, which are crucial in enhancing their lives.

As a Filipino citizen, I am confident that you are aware of the issues that affect us. Nonetheless, I wish to urge you to work together with our elected representatives to address such challenges and issues collectively. I ask that you concentrate your efforts on promoting equal opportunities for every Filipino and, most importantly, ensure that basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare are made available to everyone. I firmly believe that a well-nourished and healthy populace is the fundamental aspect in the development of a thriving nation.

Additionally, I would like to call your attention to the pressing issues that require your attention and action. The fight against corruption, poverty, and inequality remains a significant challenge for the Philippines.  It is essential to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. Millions of Filipinos still live below the poverty line, which is why social welfare programs should be emphasized and expanded.

Fighting corruption is also necessary. Transparency and accountability are needed, especially with the use of public funds. Disadvantaged sectors should not be deprived of basic services and proper social services due to irresponsible or corrupt officials.

Lastly, as the leader of our country, I implore that you continue to lead us with compassion, wisdom, and justice. I truly believe that the consistent demonstration of these traits by our leaders will invigorate and encourage all of us to create a better future that our country deserves.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

Sincerely,

Maxyn Czairil Revibes
